Hoover goes for Alabama record with giant Apple Pie!

The baking started Saturday, May 1 and the giant pie will be served today at Veteran's Park!

Admiring a huge pan soon to be filled with apple pie are, from left, Daniel Dozier, Gary Skelton, Hoover Mayor Tony Petelos, Erin Colbaugh, Tommy Daniel and David Buchanan.

Some folks in Hoover are preparing to begin tonight baking what they believe will be the largest apple pie in Alabama history.

The pie will be 10 feet, 3 inches in diameter, baked in a pan that literally weighs a ton --2,000 pounds.

Students from Jefferson State Community College's Culinary Hospitality Institute, with director Joseph Mitchell, will bake the pie at Hoover's Veterans Park. It will be served Sunday for Celebrate Hoover Day.
