Neighbor to Neighbor

This just came from a cousin in Texas.
Charles Ray Nix

I received a call a few minutes ago from 786-358-6691 asking to verify my name then telling me that they represented the SS Administration and would be sending new Medicare cards to all holders. He ask if he had my address correct (which he did).  I then ask why I would be getting a new Medicare card and he told me it was because of the new Medicare laws and for people to receive benefits from Medicare they would have to have the new card.  By this time I had figured out it was a scam so my reply to him was "why would I be getting a Medicare card when I don't have one now".  He immediately hung up.  In checking the number on the Internet it says it is a scam number that "tricks" your caller ID into recording another number.  The name showing up on my caller ID was "PROMTN MTR WCA".  I think this is something people need to be aware of as many older people are so gullible and will give info to unknowns.  Also, in checking on line, people who have let the call go further have been ask for their bank info and routing numbers.  When questioned about that the caller hangs up.  The male caller had an accent, possibly East Indian.

I called the police department and they told me I should call the TV stations so that others could be notified.

Neighbor-to-Neighbor

This week a break-in was discovered at 5156 Crossings Parkway.  The owners were out of town and their daughter discovered the break-in and called police.  Two Hoover police investigators dusted for fingerprints, but found none ( they said the robbers wore gloves). It occurred sometime during the past week.  The glass in the back door was broken out and the house was ransacked.  Electronics and other valuables were taken.  If anyone saw anything suspicious during the past week please contact the Hoover police.

Neighbor - to - Neighbor

Neighborhood Watch Alert!

January 14, 2013, a man rang my doorbell. He asked me if I had a child at Spain Park. He said that he was trying to track down a cell phone and "this address came up". It could have been the truth, but I seriously doubt it.

Description: African-American male, 6' 2" tall, heavy (250-300 lbs), nicely groomed. His vehicle is a silver/gray Ford (Chevy?) pickup with a tonneau cover over the bed. It looks like a new model.

I called the Hoover police immediately. After he left I went out and drove our neighborhood as well as the Crossings, but did not see him again.

Please alert our neighbors to be very cautious about opening their doors to a stranger. Also, let's be sure to report anything at all that we think might be suspicious.

Neighbor to Neighbor:

Fall is in the air! We can see it and experience the relief from the heat.  As information...

not actual coyote
Just last week, Ms. Barbara Kessler at 5165 Crossings Parkway reported that a deer apparently entered her back yard and was killed and eaten by a predator.  Perhaps the predator might have been a coyote, or bobcat.  There were no witnesses to confirm what it was, but however, a good deal of the carcass had been devoured.

We want to caution parents and grandparents to be mindful of any preschoolers playing outside your home in the sanctuary, that they have plenty of supervision, and that we all err on the side of caution for safety reasons. Thanksgiving is not far off and the holidays will be upon us.  Enjoy the season!

Barry Dean Roseman

Barry Dean Roseman, 60, of Birmingham, passed away suddenly September 23.  Barry was born June 16,1952 to Frances and Arnold Roseman.  He graduated from B.U.S. and magna cum laude from the University of Texas with a degree in psychology.  He worked in the jewelry business and in the security industry.

Barry was well traveled, having traveled to all 7 continents.  He had the happiest disposition in the world and his sense of humor was unparalleled.  He could relate to everyone whether they were 9 or 90 years old.  When his son joined the scouts, Barry became not just an active parent, but the Scoutmaster. Barry lived life as we all should---caring, loving, giving.  He passed from this life to the next, without fanfare, and with characteristic simplicity.

Barry was predeceased by his father.  He is survived by his wife, Bari, his son Evan Roseman of Mt. View, California, his mother Frances, his brothers, Donald (Barbara) Roseman of Houston and Ronald Roseman (Liz Thomas) of Seattle and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Temple Beth-El with the burial at Elmwood Cemetery.

Once a day, all day long
Once a night from dusk to dawn,
The only time I wish you weren't gone
Is once a day, every day, all day long.
I love you,
BMR
